P&DG were instructed by Peterborough City Council to assist in securing planning approval for improvements to the secondary school including new dining and teaching block and science laboratory, an all-weather pitch with associated external works, additional car parking and landscaping.

Client: Peterborough City Council on behalf of Peterborough Keys Academies Trust

Size: 1,800 pupil secondary school

LPA: Peterborough City Council

Expertise: Planning Applications, Project Management and Coordination, Stakeholder Engagement

Working closely with the scheme architect and specialist consultants, and engaging with local residents, adjustments to the proposals sought to address areas of contention, demonstrating the lack of harm and overall acceptability of the proposals. In particular, the deployment of specialist noise modelling informed the design of acoustic fencing, allowing the all-weather pitch to be located adjacent to residential properties, making effective and efficient use of available space. Planning permission was subsequently granted and the improved facilities, including a year-round sporting facility and other essential improvements, are now in use.

The proposals generated significant local interest, with concerns focussed around traffic generation, parking and impacts on residential amenity.
