An £8m investment was required to enable the delivery of interventions to address significant site legacy issues following the amalgamation of Leysland High School and Countesthorpe Community College in 2016. Unavoidably, the existing site circumstances for the school meant that students moved between two sites, the distance being relatively substantial and in turn, causing unacceptable disruption to learning as well as safeguarding and welfare issues for staff, students and visitors.

Whilst this educational opportunity was a top priority nationally, complex planning and heritage issues around this site had to be balanced through design and extensive negotiations by P&DG with Blaby District Council. This required considerable effort by the project team robustly justifying the educational need, setting out the operational requirements, preparation of a heritage impact assessment and managing the application process.

Following the winning round of officers and most of the local community, the planning committee voted unanimously to approve the scheme.
